THE JARGON DECODER
Decoding complex policy terms into plain English so you can focus on making an impact.

📌 Term: Climate Reparations

What it actually means:
Climate reparations” is the idea that countries and corporations most responsible for the climate crisis (mainly in the Global North) should compensate those hit hardest (mostly in the Global South). It’s not aid-it’s about accountability, justice, and redress for historical harm.

Why it matters:
Low-income countries often face the worst climate impacts without having caused the crisis. From floods to crop failure, they pay the price while rich countries profit from past emissions. Reparations aim to balance that by funding recovery, adaptation, and resilience.

Quick tip:
If your work centers on equity, justice, or frontline communities, linking it to climate reparations can strengthen your case-especially in global policy spaces and funding conversations leading up to COP30. This isn’t charity. It’s overdue.
