THE JARGON DECODER
Decoding complex policy terms into plain English so you can focus on making an impact.
📌 Term: Global Stocktake (GST) →
What it actually means:
Think of it as the Paris Agreement’s report card. Every five years, countries come together to assess how we’re doing globally on cutting emissions, adapting to climate change, and securing finance. It's meant to guide countries to up their game.
Why it matters:
The GST influences what countries commit to next. If the stocktake shows we’re off-track (spoiler: we are), it should pressure governments to strengthen their climate plans (aka NDCs). For funders and activists, it’s a pulse check on progress, and gaps to fill.
Quick tip:
If you’re applying for climate funding or working on advocacy, referencing the GST can show you’re tuned into the global context. It's a great way to align your work with where the climate movement is headed.
