Featuring Aishwarya Lahariya , Founder - JIWYA
Stay ahead of the latest shifts in business, policy, and innovation - curated for changemakers like you.

A textile scientist turned entrepreneur, Aishwarya has spent over a decade at the intersection of deep tech research and sustainable design. From medical textiles to carbon fibres, from co-founding BioFluff (the world’s first plant-based fur) to moving back to India to start JIWYA, she’s seen the fashion industry’s environmental cost up close.

Aishwarya Lahariya , Founder - JIWYA

Her expertise in material chemistry and textiles has shaped her mission: to create the cleanest possible fashion ecosystem, one that respects both the planet and the people making the clothes we wear.

"I wake up every day with the hope and determination that my actions can bring a positive change in the world. I believe in caring for my two permanent homes, the body and the planet. What we put out into the land and water comes right back into us. The need to do better, preserve hope through action, and build a better world for all drives me to keep building Jiwya."

 Aishwarya Lahariya, Co-founder, JIWYA

How It’s Helping

JIWYA isn’t just another fashion brand swapping plastic bags for paper. Aishwarya and her cofounder Adhiraj are rethinking fashion from the ground up.

This means:

  • 100% plant-based materials

  • Hyper-local raw material sourcing

  • Zero waste & zero discharge production

  • Direct work with 150+ grassroots artisan clusters across India

  • Preserving heritage arts while committing to plant-based compassion

Jiwya in a nutshell

It’s not a tweak to an old system. It’s an entirely new business model where the supply chain is built to never harm the environment or the people in it.

How You Can Help

Ethical, clean fashion can exist, and JIWYA is proving it. Now they need more people to know. Here’s how the Impactship community can get involved:

  • Amplify their story in your networks and platforms

  • Invite them to share expertise on sustainable fashion and materials at events or panels

  • Spread the word to conscious buyers ready to make better choices

THE JARGON DECODER
Decoding complex policy terms into plain English so you can focus on making an impact.

📌 Term: Nature-based Solutions (NbS) â†’

What it actually means:
Using nature to solve problems humans created. Think restoring mangroves to protect coastlines from storms, planting trees to absorb carbon, or creating urban green spaces to cool overheated cities. It’s not about just planting stuff - it’s about working with ecosystems, not against them.

Why it matters:
Done right, NbS can tackle climate change, protect biodiversity, and boost community resilience - all at once. Done wrong, it can lead to greenwashing (hello, monoculture tree plantations that destroy habitats).

Quick tip:
If you’re applying for funding or pitching a project, highlight how your work delivers climate, community, and biodiversity wins together. That’s NbS gold.
