THE JARGON DECODER
Decoding complex policy terms into plain English so you can focus on making an impact.
📌 Term: Planetary Boundaries →
Scientists have identified nine “safe zones” (like climate, biodiversity, freshwater, land use) that keep Earth stable and livable. Crossing these boundaries pushes the planet into dangerous, often irreversible change.
Why it matters:
We’ve already overshot six of the nine boundaries, including climate change and biosphere integrity. Translation: Earth’s life-support systems are under serious stress, and human well-being depends on pulling back.
Quick tip:
If your work connects climate, biodiversity, or health, framing it within planetary boundaries shows funders and policymakers that you’re addressing the bigger system, not just one issue.
