THE JARGON DECODER
Decoding complex policy terms into plain English so you can focus on making an impact.
📌 Term: Climate Finance →
What it actually means:
Climate finance refers to money-yes, real funding that flows from developed to developing countries (and between stakeholders) to tackle climate change. It covers two main things:
Mitigation: Reducing greenhouse gas emissions (think: renewable energy, electric transport).
Adaptation: Adjusting to climate impacts (think: flood defenses, climate-resilient agriculture).
Why it matters:
Low-income countries, often the most vulnerable, need funding to adapt and transition but historically haven’t received nearly enough. Negotiations focus on whether wealthy nations deliver on promises like the famous (and overdue) $100 billion per year pledge.
