THE JARGON DECODER
Decoding complex policy terms into plain English so you can focus on making an impact.
📌 Term: Mitigation vs. Adaptation→
What it actually means:
These are two pillars of climate action. Mitigation means stopping climate change from getting worse, think cutting emissions or switching to renewables. Adaptation means adjusting to the effects we can’t avoid, like building flood defenses or climate-resilient crops.
Why it matters:
You’ll hear these words everywhere from COP30 halls to funding proposals. Knowing the difference helps you navigate opportunities and shape more targeted solutions. Most projects (and grants) focus on one-so make sure you know which lane you're in.
